Overview

The Structural Engineering Technician plays a critical role in supporting engineers by producing accurate and detailed construction drawings. This position requires a strong understanding of Revit modeling, attention to drafting standards, and the ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to schedules. Key responsibilities include creating and preparing comprehensive drawing packages, assisting in the development of preliminary foundation and framing systems, and ensuring the uniformity of project deliverables. Effective communication skills and proficiency in mathematical concepts are essential to collaborate with engineers and meet project milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Create Revit models as new projects begin.
  • Prepare layout, both in model and on sheets, for complete drawing package, to include plan sheets, detail sheets, general notes, typical details, schedules, and other sheet types that may be necessary for a given project.
  • Assist in selecting and preparing applicable standard details.
  • Create preliminary foundation and framing systems in Revit.
  • Cut sections on plans, place details on sheets, and populate information on details for review and comment by Engineer.
  • Maintain drafting standards and uniformity in product.
  • Aid Engineer in monitoring project schedules and keeping projects moving toward milestone deadlines.
  • May have multiple projects ongoing at any given time. Should be able to manage time as required to manage expected deliverables or convey to Group Lead when more resources are required.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or a related field (preferred).
  • Ability to read and fundamentally understand common technical documents.
  • Ability to accept direction and critique.
  • Proficiency in presenting information effectively in both oral and written formats.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric principles.
  • Proficiency in applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
