Parkhill is a multidisciplinary practice seeking a Planning Student to support our architectural and planning projects. This role will focus primarily on mapping and data analysis, with opportunities to support master planning efforts across various sectors. The Planner Intern will contribute to pre-design efforts, including facility master plans, demographic studies, facility condition assessments, asset management, and construction cost estimating.

 

The position offers the opportunity to engage with diverse teams and projects, applying analytical and visualization skills to inform strategic planning and design decisions. Hands-on project work will vary depending on project type and team needs, offering a well-rounded experience across different disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, planners, and other design professionals on a diverse range of planning and design projects.
  • Assists in conducting geospatial, demographic, and statistical data analyses to support internal business sectors and external clients.
  • Utilize GIS, Power BI, and diverse visualization tools to communicate patterns, trends, and relationships in planning and design projects.
  • Apply machine learning algorithms and advanced statistical models to inform facility planning and decision-making.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data from internal, external, and public sources to support planning efforts.
  • Assists in developing specialized GIS maps and online mapping solutions for projects.
  • Assists in maintaining and implementing tabular and geospatial databases.
  • Create data-driven reports, dashboards, and graphics to communicate insights effectively.
  • Extract and analyze demographic and spatial data for reports and mapping.
  • Under supervision, builds advanced statistical models for facility planning and design analysis.

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Data Science, or a related field. 
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a collaborative environment. 

Technical Skills (Preferred but not Required):

  • AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp
  • ArcGIS, QGIS
  • Power BI, Tableau, Qlik
  • KNIME, R, Python (for data analysis and modeling)
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

No certification required, but the following are preferred as you progress in your career:

  • AICP certification
  • GISP certification
  • LEED AP certification
  • ENV SP certification
