Overview

The Engineer-in-Training or recently licensed Professional Engineer will be integral to project development, from initial concept to on-site oversight focused on the field of aviation. Strong communication skills are essential for seamless collaboration with project stakeholders. This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary-based pay structure.

Responsibilities

    • Assist in engineering efforts from design to construction on civil engineering projects focused in the field of aviation.
    • Use computerized design software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and other relevant computerized tools to prepare design assignments.
    • Assist with the development of projects for entry into the Project LifeCycle Management (PLM) system.
    • Collaborate with team members on design specifications and timelines.
    • Perform field observation work, under minimal supervision.
    • Act as the liaison between the DFW Airport Asset Manager (DFW AM) for external assessments, coordinating and reporting P6 milestones or providing general updates.
    • Review previous external assessments for the creation of capital projects.
    • Conduct site visits for data collection or quality inspections.
    • Write and proofread Executive Summaries, Scope of Works, Estimates, Project Data Sheets (PDS), Business Cases (BC), and other project documentation.
    • Research historical or current documents relevant to project needs.
    • Review DCC design or miscellaneous submittals.
    • Conduct or participate in internal assessments of DFW-owned buildings.
    • Attend office or field meetings in person.
    • Work independently while ensuring timely deliverables, with oversight on complex or high-profile tasks provided by the DFW AM.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
    • EIT certification or Professional Engineer licensure. 
    • 5 years of Structural or Civil Engineering experience.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D.
    • Basic construction knowledge and familiarity with building and bridge design.
    • Knowledge of DFW Airport office work rules.

Work Environment

    • DFW Airport Engineering Department, reporting to the Asset Management Office.
    • Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, with potential for additional hours, including late nights or weekends, as needed.
