Overview

The Civil 3D Technician supports design and engineering teams by transforming rough sketches and preliminary concepts into accurate electronic drawings  for landfills, ponds, grading, and site development plans. This role prepares detailed project drawings under supervision, performs standard arithmetic computations, and assists in assembling and modifying detail sheets. This is a full-time, nonexempt position paid on an hourly basis.

Parkhill is one of the largest architectural and engineering firms in the Southwest with 14 offices located throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. 

Responsibilities

  • Converts drawings from rough sketch format to electronic format in preparation for landfills, ponds, roadways, site development, and other similar projects, based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, historical drawings, permit plan sets, survey information, and other data

  • Prepares final detailed drawings of simple project elements from sketches or marked-up prints

  • Assists engineers with project material quantities for cost estimating

  • Works with industry experts to develop permit level and construction level plan sets

  • Makes arithmetic computations using standard formulas

  • Assists with assembling and modifying standard detail sheets

  • Assists in preparing and updating non-electronic drawings

  • Assists in archiving electronic and non-electronic drawings

  • Primarily in-office work with occasional site visits

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 2-5 years of full-time relevant work experience with Civil 3D required.
  • Associate’s degree in architectural & engineering Computer-Aided Design (AAS or AS), Computer-Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) or other equivalent program preferred.
  • Attention to detail, foundational drafting and grading skills, and the ability to follow established design standards and procedures while collaborating with other team members, technologists, design professionals, and engineers.
  • Foundational knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models; materials, methods, and the equipment involved in the construction  of landfills, ponds, general site grading, highways and roads.
  • Skill in using computer aided design CAD software such as Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D and Geographic Information System GIS Systems.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts including algebraic and geometric principles.
  • Effectively present information in oral and written format.
